Regulatory notes by market

Regional rules, one global partner.

Orientation for buyers — confirm specifics with your regulatory adviser. Each market page has the full notes.

GSO · SFDA · Halal

GCC countries

  • UAE: supplements and herbal products. Supplements and herbal products generally need registration with the federal health authority before sale — historically MOHAP, with responsibilities being reorganised in recent years. Foods are cleared through emirate-level systems such as Dubai Municipality's. A UAE-licensed importer applies; we prepare the manufacturer dossier.
  • Saudi Arabia: SFDA. The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) regulates foods, health supplements and herbal products. Products are classified by composition and claims, then registered or notified through SFDA's electronic systems by a Saudi-licensed importer or agent, supported by the manufacturer documents we supply.

MHRA · FSA

United Kingdom

  • Food supplements (FSA / FSS). Most botanical supplements are sold as foods under the Food Supplements Regulations. There is no pre-market approval in Great Britain, but products must be safe, correctly labelled and use only permitted vitamin and mineral forms.
  • Herbal medicines (MHRA). Products presented with medicinal claims fall under the MHRA — typically the Traditional Herbal Registration (THR) scheme. We keep food-supplement positioning clear of medicinal claims to avoid borderline status.

TGA · FSANZ

Australia

  • Listed complementary medicines (TGA). Supplements making therapeutic claims are regulated by the TGA — most as listed medicines (AUST L) using permitted ingredients and permitted indications. The Australian sponsor holds the listing; overseas manufacturing sites need acceptable GMP evidence.
  • Foods (FSANZ). Superfood powders, premixes and functional foods sold as food must meet the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, including labelling and any health-claim rules.

SAHPRA · Dept. of Health

South Africa

  • Complementary medicines (SAHPRA). Many herbal and Ayurvedic products and health supplements are regulated by SAHPRA as complementary medicines under the Medicines and Related Substances Act. Requirements are being phased in, so confirm with your local applicant whether a product needs registration or must meet labelling and notification rules. We supply the manufacturer dossier.
  • Foods (Department of Health). Superfood powders, premixes and functional foods sold as food fall under the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act. Labelling regulations restrict health claims on foods and new labelling rules have been proposed, so we review label wording before artwork is final.
