Sourcing halal nutraceuticals for the UAE and GCC: what importers look for
Halal certification, Arabic labelling, registration dossiers and logistics — how to prepare a nutraceutical range for UAE and GCC distribution.

The UAE is the gateway to the GCC wellness market, and Dubai's re-export trade reaches far beyond its borders. Importers and pharmacy chains here move quickly — but they expect halal assurance, Arabic-ready labels and dependable supply from day one.
Halal is the starting point
For ingestible wellness products, halal certification is expected by most UAE buyers. It covers not just the active ingredients but everything that touches the product: capsule shells, gummy gelatin or pectin, flavours, carriers and processing aids. Plant-based formulations simplify halal compliance considerably.
Confirm the certifying body is recognised in each destination country — lists differ across the GCC
Check halal status of excipients, not only actives
Prefer pectin-based gummies and HPMC capsules for halal and vegetarian suitability
Registration through a local partner
Health supplements and herbal products generally require registration with the federal health authority before sale. Responsibilities have been reorganised in recent years, so confirm the current authority and route with your importer. In practice, a UAE-licensed company submits the application, supported by a manufacturer dossier covering formulation, manufacturing, stability and quality documents. Saudi Arabia works the same way through the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and a Saudi-licensed importer, and Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain each run their own registration — so plan the dossier once and adapt it per country.
Arabic labelling
GCC labelling standards require Arabic — alone or alongside English. Plan bilingual artwork from the start: Arabic text often runs longer than English and changes panel layouts. Production and expiry dates, storage conditions and country of origin must be clear.
Logistics advantage from India
Sea freight from Gujarat's Mundra port or Nhava Sheva to Jebel Ali, Dammam or Jeddah is among the shortest routes into the Gulf, which supports lean inventory and fast replenishment. Container consolidation lets distributors combine several SKUs in one shipment.
Speed up evaluation
Ask for halal certificate copies, a dossier outline and a bilingual label draft to ship with the first samples. Registration can then run in parallel with product evaluation.
