Moringa, spirulina or wheatgrass? Building a superfood powder blend
How the three most requested greens compare on nutrition, taste and colour — and how to combine them in a private label superfood powder.

Greens powders are one of the steadiest growth categories in wellness retail, and moringa, spirulina and wheatgrass are the three ingredients buyers ask us about most. Each brings something different to a blend. This guide compares them and shows how brands combine them in a private label superfood powder.
Moringa: dense, green and Indian-grown
Moringa leaf powder offers protein (typically 20–27%), fibre and a naturally occurring spread of vitamins and minerals. Its taste is earthy and slightly peppery. India grows most of the world's supply, including in Gujarat. Our moringa sourcing guide covers drying and specification in detail.
Spirulina: the protein heavyweight
Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) is a cultivated blue-green alga with protein of 55% or more. It brings an intense blue-green colour and a strong marine taste, so most blends use it at a modest share. Specify heavy metals and microcystin testing — the two checks importers ask about most.
Wheatgrass: mild and bright
Wheatgrass powder is the young grass of Triticum aestivum. It is milder and sweeter than moringa or spirulina, lifts the colour of a blend and is easy to drink. Note that wheatgrass may need gluten wording depending on the market and test results.
Combining them
A typical greens blend uses wheatgrass or barley grass as the base for taste and colour, adds moringa for nutrient density, and a smaller share of spirulina for protein. Fruit powders, digestive enzymes or prebiotic fibres often complete the formula — see our ready green superfood premix for a starting point.
Organic and quality
Organic grades are offered where certified supply is available, and the certificate scope is confirmed with each quotation. Whatever the grade, ask for lot-level testing for microbiology, heavy metals and pesticide residues against your destination's limits.
